Inimesed

An Android app that lets you search your contacts by voice. Internet not required. Based on Pocketsphinx. Uses Estonian acoustic models.

Inimesed is a simple app with the goal of making your address book browsing as fast and hands-free as possible. To that end the app employs search-by-voice — just hold a finger on the microphone button and say the name of the person whose contact details you wish to view, or issue the command "helista palun person's name" to start a phone call. (Note that the current version of the app expects native Estonian pronunciation, which must be used also with foreign names. In case you are an Android developer interested in porting Inimesed to other languages, please see the FAQ.)

The built-in speech recognizer is based on Pocketsphinx by the CMU Sphinx project, specifically its Android port, see Building Pocketsphinx On Android.

The Estonian acoustic models have been created by the Laboratory of Phonetics and Speech Technology, Institute of Cybernetics at Tallinn University of Technology and are available at github.com/alumae/et-pocketsphinx-tutorial.
